Craniosacral Therapy is a branch of osteopathy developed by Dr. John Upledger. It involves the subtle manipulation of the membranes surrounding the central nervous system inside the skull and spinal cord. The subtlety of these manipulations demands development of highly refined palpation skills in the practitioner.
Vince Black studied and worked directly with Dr. Upledger for many years and became a well-respected cranial worker. His experiences with this therapy under Dr. Upledger’s direction, and his own independent research, led him to integrate it into the association’s repertoire and curriculum, where it works side-by-side with the more vigorous manipulations of Jin Shou Tuina and the theoretical foundations of Chinese medicine.
It has been found that craniosacral work is highly compatible with both Chinese medicine and internal gongfu, the methods of each supporting and influencing the other. The association’s cranial work has taken on a more Chinese medicine-based approach compared to that used by other craniosacral therapists. At the same time, our tuina method has become more gentle and refined, and the self-cultivation involved in the practice of gongfu has been found to greatly improve people’s ability to practice bodywork.
Association members have access to learning craniosacral therapy after a foundation in both gongfu and tuina has been developed.
